phewww my-hasn't time flown... it feels like seconds have passed since my last post. Well the truth is I've had such a manically busy time recently that my weekend has been filled with relaxing and dreaming about warmer months, the snow has been with us in Nottingham so I have been adorned in winter accessories and layered to almost Michelin like quality.

So here's a treat for all you lovely readers, the SS12 Huit collection and isn't it beautiful, feminine with a touch of avante-garde- a delightful mix. Enjoy

A Pink Hug In A Mug- Beetroot Soup

Sunday is my cooking day, alongside making a full Sunday dinner with pud' I also make a soup for the weeks lunches. So today I am making beetroot soup which serves 4-6 people or 4-6 work lunches

What Goes in....

2 parsnips-peeled, top and tailed
3 beetroots-peeled, top and tailed
1 spanish onion
400g of cherry tomatoes
2 garlic cloves-pressed
1 tablespoon of tomato puree
5 black peppercorns freshly ground
1 ltr of hot beef stock
a splash of vegetable oil
a pinch of crumbly cheese per bowl (I use goats cheese(- this is optional but I think it really finishes it off)

How to do....

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Put the cherry tom's, garlic, tomato puree and vegetable oil in an oven proof dish and roast until the tomatoes are lovely and squidgy (around 30 mins).

While waiting for the tomatoes to roast grate the parsnips, beetroot and onion into a bowl. If your are super speedy and finish this job before the roasting has finished put these in a bowl and set aside in the fridge.

Have a cuppa while checking the tomatoes until they are at the right consistency.. once done spoon out the tomatoes and reserve the oil.. press them through a sift to get rid of the seeds and skins. You will be left with a gorgeously looking tomato sauce.

Using a good size saucepan combine the roasted tomato sauce, grated vegetables, beef stock and black pepper, apply a low to medium heat and let it simmer for around 20-30 mins.

Carefully puree the soup, you may want to let this cool before you do or you could leave it chunky if that's the way you like it. Poor it into a nice white bowl to show off the colour and crumble over the cheese.

This could be served hot or cold depending on what you fancy.

What to do with the oil you say?! why use it to dip bread in once cool, maybe another night for tea.. it's all about using everything and conserving!

Happy Sunday! I like to make a special breakfast on Sunday's so mine started with wholemeal pancakes with banana, honey and sesame seeds.. yummy and healthy

Last weekend I went to the Cake Caddy in Matlock, there I learnt how to decorate some cupcakes, here's how they turned out

Being a bit of cake obsessive I popped to Waitrose to see what theirs looked like, I got mint and chocolate, cherry and lavender, all delish' and a pleasure to the eye..

Frillies wish list- patchwork throws and bird print dresses

I thought write the things I am saving up to buy right now, after I made a promise to myself that I would buy more considered pieces rather then for the sake of it I've been making a list, but it seems to be getting bigger by the day...

First off is this stunningly colourful throw from Urban Outfitters, I've had my eye on this for a while now I think it will look perfect in our bedroom next to the vintage dark wood furniture we've got. Our bed on our next list to paint, it doesn't look right at the moment because it is pine, the bed in the picture below has inspired me to paint it white. The room may not become matchy matchy but that's not our style anyway.

The AW11 collection by Nadinoo is breathtakingly gorgeous, all the prints are from Liberty and all the dresses are handmade in the UK. I have my eye on both these dresses, a little more then I would usually pay for a dress but I think the handmade in England tag warrants the purchase.

Nadinoo's AW11 film titled Sounds of the Woods is a great insight to the handwriting of the brand, whimsical, dreamy and shows off the new clothes in a great light.

Curly Auburn Hair

So pre Christmas I was doing a spot of shopping with my sister in law and she very kindly pointed out that I have some grey hairs, I knew this already but decided that because I am quite fair naturally that maybe only I could see them, but no, they are clearly on show. So at the age of 26 I am now to cover the little blighters with some new and fun colour. When I was younger I had blonde bombshell hair that I had for about 8 years inspired by Marilyn Monroe (of course) but gave my hair a rest for a year or so.. But this time I have gone Auburn (no Cheryl Cole this side, more like Florence). Only a shade or two different from my natural colour, but for this time of year I thought it would warm my face up and complement my eye colour (blue). So far so good and I am pretty pleased with it. But I think I would much prefer to use some natural dyes on my hair (please do let me know if you can recommend any).

So this picture has inspired me for a hair do, curly and textured with a little help from a few grips to pin under. My sister has now got the fever of dying her hair and she is looking at shades of bright pink/purple. Not quite got the courage for that yet hehe!

Happy new year folks, it's been a few days since I have posted as I have been up to all sorts of festive business.

I made my Dad some plant labels for Christmas out of some old spoons I thrifted from the car boot. I hammered them out flat (at the expense of a couple of whacks to my thumb), then marked out the letters with a sharpie and stamped them with some metal embossing letters. He's a keen gardener and loves a homemade present so these went down very well indeed. I always find the boys in our family really hard to get for...

We spent Christmas Day evening at my brothers house in the lakes, it's absolutely gorgeous with loads of period features, I dream to have something similar one day.. Every reception room has ceiling roses with gorgeous lighting.

Sunday-one of my favourite days of the week. Promising myself I would have I horizontal day on the sofa watching True Blood and Gossip Girl it turned into crafting and cleaning. But I was grateful for the yummy breakfast the boy made this morn', scrambled eggs and bacon on a breakfast roll topped off with chives from the garden.

So a few months ago I purchased this lamp from a car boot sale for a bargain price of £1 (bartered down from £3). Its sat in the conservatory all that time waiting to be spruced up, so today I set to work recovering and repainting it.

I have never refurbished a lamp before but common sense, some sewing skills and a bit of double sided carpet tape I am pretty pleased with the results. Happy Sunday folks! xKx

My style is a miss match between vintage and advent garde so when I came across Titania Inglis I just had to blog about her. She has designed clothes for the modern woman with particular interest on the fit and cut of the garment. looking at bias cut, origami pleating and ingenious seaming.
As I am fast approaching my late 20's I feel that I am heading towards that grown up edgy look, with more emphasis on this area rather then nieve prints. She sticks to the rules of minalism as a matter of taste. I am really looking towards reducing my wardrobe to well considered peices rather then multiples of high street urges. knowing that I look great in what ever I decide to throw on at 6am on a Monday morning. Or a quick change before dinner out after work. More and more of us are aware of recycling and less are buying for the sake of it so Titania's use of organic fabrics and vegetable printed leather is most apealing-guilt free fashion.

Well, it looks like a giant cornish pasty, little did you know this is a Frillies delight. The Italians traditionally made this when there was left overs to be used up. Perfect for us post Christmas skintus folk (and its wholemeal too).
What you need...
Filling-Leftovers- i used beef bolognese, but could be left over veg, -cheese, i used hard goats cheese, but anything that melts well will be fine
for the dough-1 1/2 cups of luke warm water1 tbsp of oil (olive, rapeseed whatever you fancy)1 sachet of dry active yeast (1tbsp)good pinch of sugar (organic non bleached is best)good pinch of salt
1 egg beaten

what to do ...dough,well i just chucked it all in the bread maker and switched it on dough mode,alternatively you can add all the dry ingredients into a bowl and add the water little by little until it becomes smooth and elasticadd the oil and then need for around 5 mins.then you need to put back into the bowl and cover with a damp tea towel. Leave for 30 mins to allow the magic to happen
preheat the oven to about 180 degrees
flour a board or flat surface, split the dough into 4 balls, roll the first one out, you want this to be in a circle about 25cm wide and the thickness of a pound coinSpoon your left over half of your rolled out dough, but leave about 2cm lip (this is so you can seal it).Grate over your desired cheeseBrush some beaten egg along the lip you have left and fold over the dough, tuck in all the bits and pinch around the edge to seal.
Place on a baking tray and brush the egg over top (this will give it a golden shine)do the same with the other 3 ballsput in the preheated oven and cook for 15-20 mins until hot in the middle
Dont worry if you are not cooking for 4, you could use the other dough balls for pizza bases

Pom pom pie

We decided to make some turkey and leek pie with the left overs this year

This is how we did it....

Ingredients
Left over cooked Turkey meat
Packet of bacon sliced into ribbons
Filo pastry about 3 sheets per pie(I used half a sheet for the pom pom)
2 and a half leeks chopped
Butter (enough to add to the pan and to brush over the Filo)
2 heaped tablespoons of creme fresh
2 tablespoons of plain flour
The leaves of a few sprigs of thyme
2 pints of chicken stock

Method
Put some oil in a pan and add the leek and bacon, cover and leave for about 10 mins until soft.

Add the turkey, thyme and flour then cover with the stock. Give it a good stir to make sure all the flour is mixed in. Cover and leave to reduce for another 10 mins.

Once reduced add the creme fresh and warm through, once piping hot add to a pie dish.

Unroll the filo onto a clean surface or board. With a pastry brush, brush plenty of melted butter on so it doesnt dry out in the oven.
Put the sheets of pastry onto the top of your pie, Don't worry if it isn't perfect it just adds to the 'look' of it. I used half a sheet of pastry and made a pom pom as decoration but you could make anything you put your mind to.

Put the pie in the oven for around 20 mins or until it starts to go brown on the top

Serve with salad potatoes crushed with wholegrain mustard, a drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice. Don't forget the white wine

British Art Show 7

Nottingham goose fair painting

I spent today at the British Art Show 7 in Nottingham. A show that links Nottingham Contemporary, New Art Exchange and Nottingham Castle Museum. The whole event was free, and you have to have a passport stamped at each venue to be able to get into the Castle at the end.
Some interesting things were on display including the giant bear which looks like it is made from old tents.
At the castle they had their regular exhibition on, which had some wonderful textiles including a feather print Kimono and a beautiful patchwork quilt.

Banana Bread you Beast you!

well what better way to spend a sunday then to bake banana bread.

What you need...

1 tbs butter
1 tbs olive oil
2 tbs milk
160g organic sugar
1 egg
3 ripe bananas, mashed
4 walnut halves chopped
240g plain wholemeal flour
3 tsp baking powder

What to do...

Preheat oven to 200°C.
Lightly grease a 15 x 23cm loaf tin.
Whisk butter, oil and sugar until well combined. Add egg and mashed bananas and beat until fully mixed.
Combine the wholemeal plain flour and the baking powder and gently fold into the banana mixture. Add the milk and fold to combine.
Spoon mixture into greased cake tin, sprinkle the nuts over the top of and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour or until cooked and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Stand cake in the tin for 5 minutes before turning it onto a wire rack to cool.
